"A Future for the Past" is an exhibition dedicated to the enduring legacy of marble craftsmanship on the island of Tinos. As part of a two-year programme, the initiative—conceived in collaboration with marble atelier on.entropy and curated by Maria Cristina Didero—aims to highlight the dialogue between traditional techniques and contemporary design. By bringing together artisans and designers, the exhibition explores how this exchange can foster both social and economic sustainability, ensuring that Tinos’ marble heritage remains relevant in the present and future.
The visual identity was developed to honour this intersection of heritage and modernity. A custom typeface was designed, inspired by the street signs of Tinos. These letterforms were reinterpreted with a more structural, contemporary approach, creating a typographic system that was applied across exhibition materials, including posters, signage, invitations, and the catalogue.
For the catalogue, the diversity of content required a nuanced design approach. Letters from the curator and organisers, firsthand accounts from craftsmen, sketches of exhibited works, and texts on marble artistry and the School of Fine Arts were each given distinct layouts. This careful structuring ensured that each section maintained its own visual identity while contributing to a cohesive overall experience—one that reflects both the precision of craftsmanship and the evolving narrative of marble design.
